Industry 4.0 takes Pirelli, Goodyear and Michelin to develop smart tires

The main world tire manufacturers are using Industry 4.0 technologies to develop smart products that connect with surrounding objects and adapt to the roads. It’s the case of Pirelli, Goodyear and Michelin are using, Internet of Things, Artificial Intelligence, Additive Manufacturing and Cloud Computing to power one of the main components of a car in terms of security and reliability.

Goodyear’s Eagle 360 Urban can be 3D printed and is able to adapt to roads in real time thanks to its super-elastic polymers and sensors that are constantly sending information to the company’s cloud. Pirelli, on its hand, has developed a platform that connects inflation pressure and temperature sensors to the car in order to have constant information about the state of the tires.

As of Michelin, it is installing RFID chips that capture and send data in all truck tires. Besides getting to know if the product needs to be changed, this hardware allows companies to place each vehicule in real time. Besides that, Michelin is collecting this information in order to improve its tires.
